Through the eyes of a child growing up in tropical Philippines, I remember going to fiestas with glee and excitement seeing lots of vendors selling hundreds of candies, toys and wares hanging from all sides of their carts. Hot dog vendors that dot city corners in DC remind me of that experience where each vie for your attention with huge colorful umbrellas, boxes of goodies, different variety of chips, an array of fruits, sodas, cakes and pretzels. I see the hot dog vendor as a fixed and humane focal point on the street while everyone else is in frenetic hurry to go to and fro.
